Who Perot really is

To the Editors:

Let's enjoy the spontaneity and eccentricity of Ross Perot's candidacy while we can. None of us on the fringe of the existing political parties can deny the fact that we feel excluded.

We need a political party that embraces our viewpoints and ideologies--one that does not accept the status quo or the existing battle lines drawn over the years of history. After all, America's political history quickly becomes ancient as technology, communication and social change surpass the ability of our political parties to represent their constituents.

Surely, a new, vibrant party that includes in its platform the needs of a dissat-

media that our organization is often listed with the address and telephone number of the county health department. While we started as a program of the Allen County Health Department, we have since grown as an independent organization. Our correct name, address and phone number is: Allen County AIDS Task Force, P.O. Box 1091, Lima, OH 45802; 419-227-2437.

We offer community education, risk reduction programs, a Buddy Support Program, support groups and direct client services. Our service area includes Allen, Auglaize, Hancock, Hardin, Logan, Mercer, Paulding, Putnam, Shelby and Van Wert counties in Ohio.

isfied populace is the answer. The existing Examine candidates

party system has become so jaded in its competition for voters and political offices that we the people are no longer being represented. Can't we have a party that is representative of all people regardless of sexual orientation, race, religion, or economic status? That is, a party based on the rights granted to all Americans in the Constitution (that we are all created equal, etc.).

The burning question to ask in the summer of 1992: Is Ross Perot the leader for this grass roots party? What are his stands on the key issues and does he really understand what America needs?

America's problems transcend party politics--they require bipartisan cooperation. Perot's main hope for the future is that he recognize the adversarial nature of our traditional parties. They are unable to identify the common problems, to seek the common good, and to proceed forward with bipartisan resolve. Perot is in a position to cure the stranglehold that our problems have on us. Only he can draw on the best that Democrats, Republicans, business and grass roots America can offer.

Brilliantly, Perot has mounted popular support from the people who share his disappointments with the current system. So eager is America for change that this support may be in jeopardy when we learn who Ross Perot really is. We know he means well and cares greatly, but will we, the politically disillusioned, be able to accept the views he seems so unwilling to announce? Let's hope so.

To the Editors:

I'm glad you're back and that it didn't take long to begin publishing again. My heart sank to think of not having the Chronicle delivered every month. You were my information line to upcoming events, local news and area organizations. In looking for a suitable alternative, I found that there is none!

As far as what I'd like to see printed: gays and lesbians always need to be informed on politicians' views regarding our lifestyles so that we can make informed decisions on who to vote for. Personally, I vote for candidates because of their views; first on homosexual issues, second on abortion, and third on their environmental record. Please keep us updated, especially on the upcoming presidential election!

Also, where are the Akron advertisers, i.e. businesses, bars, organizations, professionals? I realize the Chronicle is a Cleveland-based publication, but the readership is much more far-reaching. How about it, Akron? Let us know who or where you are so we can patronize/matronize you.

Just an added note: don't let the name Highland Square deceive you. It may be a leading area for gays living in Akron, but homophobia lurks around every corner. Larry & Jerry's/Rocknes Pub in Highland Square (strange name for a supposedly straight establishment) refused my lover and I service. Why? We were falsely accused of being lewd in public and called homophobic names by two patrons. When Michael J. Readinger questioned, the manager's statement was Dennis K. Giles "Well, I didn't actually see it."

AIDS services in west central Ohio

To the Editors:

I am writing on behalf of the Allen County AIDS Task Force, a non-profit AIDS service organization serving ten counties of west central Ohio.
